School Readiness

School readiness is defined by the Office of Head Start (OHS) as “children are ready for school, families are ready to support their children’s learning, and schools are ready for children”. Research shows that what happens in the first months and years of life is critical in the development of a healthy child, ready and eager to learn. Physical Development and Health and Social and Emotional Development are two of the five essential, or core, domains of birth to 5 school readiness, as outlined in the OHS Child Development and Early Learning Framework.
